Apple Blossom

I have never really harvested any apples from my apple trees. We live just too for south. It gets way too hot way too soon for the fruit to get any size. I usually eat a few each year, the birds eat even more. But, if for no other reason, I am glad I planted these two trees when we moved out here 15 years ago just to be able to take pictures of the flowers. I never tire of taking new photos of apple blossoms. You’ll have to forgive me…

Squirrel On Tree

A common sight out my kitchen window at any time of the year. This old stub of a limb is a favorite place of the neighborhood squirrels. Out of reach of cats and dogs, hidden from the hawks…A great place to munch on an acorn or two…

Watauga Mill Dam

When I first saw this old mill dam in 2004, I really wanted to take a shot. But the road past was narrow with no place to pull over. There were no trespassing signs posted everywhere. So I didn’t stop.

The next time we were in the mountains, the water level was so low that there was no water running over the dam. It wasn’t until our trip in November of 2007 that I was able to capture a shot. The weather was overcast and rainy, fall was already gone from most of the trees. But the image (with just a little tweaking from photoshop) worked for me.

It has a real old tintype look and feel that I really like here.

Pecan in Spring

As the sun sinks into the west on a spring day the light on the new leaves contrasts with the freshly scrubbed blue of the sky in my backyard.

Moth on Window

I looked up from my computer and there sat this moth on the outside of the window beside me. The back-lighting conveyed all of the details in the wings. The spring green of the trees and grass just blurred into a soft green background…
