On the Way to Lost Maples

On the Way to Lost Maples

This was the weekend of our 30th Wedding Anniversary…And three days after being laid off from my job of 35 years…The numbness has worn of by now…And the trip, planned and paid for in advance, really was the best thing we could have done. The nights on  the porch watching the lights of Fredericksburg helped give us thinking time.

The drive down towards Lost Maples State Park was beautiful as you can see from the photo.

Red Barn and Bluebonnets

Washington and Austin Counties in Texas are famous for their Bluebonnets and their antiques…Both come together each spring when the whole area goes festival crazy.

Each spring I try to get a free day to make the drive NW into Bluebonnet Country. I do try to avoid the weekends though. Weekdays in this part of the country means when you stop in the middle of a gravel road to snap a picture you generally aren’t putting anyone out.

Medina River

Medina River

Driving back from San Antonio, I did what I normally do…I headed out in the wrong direction and circled all the way around the city. I do not ever pass up a chance for a drive in the Texas Hill Country. I have even been known to turn a five hour drive into a twelve hour drive…Don’t tell anyone, OK.

I don’t even remember what road I was on when I saw a low water crossing go over the Medina River. Once I pulled off and looked downstream I saw that folks had evidently been pulling off here for a long time. A real Hill Country swimming hole…Tire swing over the water and all.
