Button Bush, Cephalanthus occidentalis

Every year about this time these plants start showing it’s flowers. And every year the maintenance crews for the pipeline company comes along and mows them down. Then they grow back up and bloom again in July only to be mowed down again.

Since they are great little native plants, beloved by birds and bees, I keep promising myself I am going to move one or two up to the garden and allow them to grow to maturity… So far it’s a promise I haven’t kept. But, no matter what, I look forward to the flowers each summer.
